Care

Made to be used, not saved for good.

Stoneware is tough. Fired to 1280 degrees, it is vitrified, food safe, and happy in daily rotation. A few habits will keep it looking fired-yesterday for decades.

Washing

All tableware is dishwasher safe on a gentle cycle. Handwashing with a soft cloth keeps matte glazes brightest. Avoid steel wool; it leaves grey pencil-like marks on unglazed clay.

Heat

Microwave safe, oven safe to 180 degrees when placed in a cold oven. Never move a piece straight from fridge to hot oven. Thermal shock, not clumsiness, is how most handmade pots die.

Stains and marks

Tea and coffee can shadow light glazes over time. A paste of bicarb soda and warm water lifts most marks. Cutlery marks on matte surfaces polish out with a damp cloth and a little bicarb.

Unglazed surfaces

Feet and some exteriors are left raw to show the clay. Raw stoneware is sealed by the firing and needs nothing, but keep it dry overnight rather than soaking.

Chips and breaks

A chipped rim can be sanded smooth with fine wet-and-dry paper. For breaks worth keeping, ask us about kintsugi repairers we trust. Some pieces are better with a gold seam.
